毎年2月第2日曜日に鳥羽神明社を舞台に繰り広げられるのが鳥羽の火祭りです。福地と乾地地の二つの地区の者達が、燃えさかる「すずみ」の中に収められた神木と十二縄を如何に早く神前に納めるかを競い合います。

Pillars of flames rise haughtily in the winter cold as night falls. The fire festival of Toba annually takes place on the second Sunday of February, at Toba Shinmei shrine. The sight of men jumping into the burning "Suzumi" (the torches), in order to take the holy tree and the 12 ropes, is simply breathtaking. It is a festival of pride and tradition.
